"Petit musc" street is located in the Eastern part of the 4th arrondissement called "quartier Arsenal". In French "musc" is an old word signifying perfume but it seems that the origin of the name of this street is far from this meaning. Indeed, it seems that it is the result of a progressive transformation from "la pute y muse" which means "the whore is musing". This street already was known in 1358 and it was not far from Saint-Paul Harbour. It was a "val d'amour" (an amazing French euphemism meaning a brothel used by one of the most famous books about the history of Paris written by Jacques Hillairet, Connaissance du Vieux Paris, Edition Princesse, 1965, page 15).
